THE WORK OF REFEREES.
Jn his remarks at the annual meeting of the South Taranaki Association, • the president (Mr. A. F. Neilson) referred to the good work done during the year, and also to the difficulties confronting the executive and the seo- * retary. He expressed the hope that players giving up the game would retain touch with it by helping as referees. They badly wanted additions to their ranks. It is to be hoped that old players will take the hint, and take a part in the very necessary work of control. No doubt, at times it is rather a thankless job, in .which one got more ‘‘kicks than halfpence,” arid it is up to players to remember this, and do all in their power to help the referees in their work, rather than as is often the
case, making it harder for them. ' The general standard of refereeing fin the Old Country did not impress [r some of the All Blacks. One of them Sin his brusque way said : “Get a longrange gun and send one or two over from here.”
