POWER FROM MANGAHAO

tBT TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, March 27. Soon after eleven o’clock yesterday morning, the .first of the power for the Wellington City from the Government hydro electric works' at Mangahao came over the cables arid was utilised) to provide direct, current deriiands for other than tramways. On Sunday, the whole of the city [pad will be taken by Mangahao. 'The Mayor stated yesterday that for the first financial year; the city would pay the Government £40,000 for the power. This sum would be gradually increased each year, to eventually £65,000 in 1932, at which figure it would continue during the term of the contract. The amount of the current sup. plied would be up to the maximum, eleven thousand kilowatts, but for the present, the city proposed to take only live thousand, 'making up the balance of the load from other places.
