Cabinet has decided that the wooden portion of tlie old Parliament building be demolished at the end of the coming session, and a start made laying the foundation of the southern wing of the new buildings. The wooden building which is to be demolished was formerly the vice-regal residence. It was completed- in 1871, and was occupied by successive l Governors until the. end of 1907. In December of the latter ye'ar, the wooden portion of Parliament House, which was erected in 1873, was destroyed by fire Government House was then adapted to the needs of Parliament, a new vice-regal residence being erected at Newtown. The General Assembly Library, which formed a portion of the- old block, had been erected in brick about ten years previously, and this escaped /the fire. Communication betwee'n the library and the temporary Parliament House was provided by an enclosed bridge over Sydriev Street. The greater part of new Parliament House has been completed and occupied by Parliament for several years.'
