A protest against tire recent increase in the price of bread, and the suggestion that the Government should establish .J'ijtate bakeries in order +o plate a. check on the price to the public, was made iby Messrs. Fraser, Montea th and McKee n, local Labour members of Parliament, to Sir Francis BeM to-day. Sir Francis Bell replied that the Government had no power now to act arbitrarily, as it did during the war, when it established State, meat shops under war regulations, but lie emphasised the point that the Government was giving the closest attention to the question; of the price of .flour at the present time. At the same time he made the suggestion that 'municipal bakeries should be the standard.
