(From Our Own Correspondent). CARLYLE CLUB. The annual general meeting of members of the Carlisle Club was held at the Club on' Friday evening last, Dr. Simmons, president, in the chair. There was a good atendance of members. In moving tlie adoption of the bal-ance-sheet, the chairman said that he thought the club had. hone fairly well during the year, and had certainly more than hold its. own. A greater amount had been written off assets that: in the previous year, and the club’s position was to-day sound. He would like to see the billiard table.s being made more use of. and so increase tlie revenue from this source, but it was gratifying to note that full vise was now being made of the card rooms. . Mr A. T. Christensen seconded the motion tor adoption of the balancesheet, which was carried. > The election of office-bearers resulted : —President., Mr G. 0. Taylor; vicepresident. Mr A. T. Christensen ; committee. Messrs C. Honey field, L. Hamilton, Hamel, Findlay. Deane, Rutherford and J. Paterson, with president and vice-president ex officio; auditor, R. W. Hamerton. . . i Mr E. Gilbert thought the positions of secretary and auditor should b.e honorary; they could then cut down the subscription, which was too high. On the suggestion of Mr Christensen, the committee was asked to take into consideration the question of remitting the entrance fee during this year. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing office-bearers for their services during the past year. Dr. Simmons acknowledged the voteon behalf of the office-bearers, and said he was very pleased that more interest was being taken in the club, and lie predicted a good future for it. Mention had been made that the subscription was. too high. Well, the subscrip-. tion amounted to about one shilling a week, and he did not think anyone could honestly grumble at that. The question of improving the beating arrangements was discussed, and the matter was left to the committee to arrange. . -. Before closing the. meeting, the chairman -said that one of their number, Mr Walter Jones, was on the eve of leaving for England, on holiday, and he would take the opportunity of wishing him a pleasant trip and a safe return. : Mr Christensen endorsed the remarks of the chairman, and said he hoped when Air Jones returned he would tell them something of what happened on his trip. Mr Jones thanked the members sincerely for their kind remarks, which he greatly appreciated. BARNARDO COLLECTION. Air H. S. Alpe arrived in Patea on Friday evening about 7 o’clock looking as fit "as the proverbial “fiddle.”
