DR. BARNARDO’S HOMES.
WALK TO WELLINGTON. COLLECTION IN RAWER A. The street collection in Hawera yesterday in connection with Air H. S. Alpe’s walk to Wellington for the benefit of Dr. Barnardo’s Homqs resulted in a total of £l7 17s 6d, made up as follows : Air H. S. Alpe, £4 2e 6d ; Miss Tait, £3 9s 9d; Mr Leslie Thomas, £3 7s 2d; Aliss Gould. £2 11s 3d; Miss Bullock, £2 5s 6d; Aliss Hodge, £1 Is 4d; Misses G. and I. Sage, £l. Air H. W. Lee (New Zealand secretary for the Barnardo Day Fund), in supplying the above figures to a Star reporter, expressed the warmest appreciation of the valued assistance given by the Alavor (Mr L. A. Bone) in making arrangements for the collection and enlisting the services of the young ladies who had proved such efficient collectors. A receipt from the London office of Dr. Barnardo’s Homes would he sent to Air Bone for the amount above detailed. Air Alpe has unfortunately strained a tendon of his left ankle, and this mishap compelled, him to abandon his intended effort to set up a new record between Eltham and Hawera, but he left this morniner for Patea, and hopes that a week-end’s rest there will put matters right. Air Lee also expressed the very sincere thanks of the party to Air Anderson. licensee of the White Hart Hotel, and to Afrs AlcLean. of Somerset Hpuse, for the hospitality extended to members of the pai’tv.
