FATALITY AT MANGATOKI.
HAYMAKING ACCIDENT. FARMER DIES- FROM INJURIES. A distressing accident, resulting in the death of Mr. R. Gouiden, a farmer resident in the Upper Hunter Road, occurred at Mangaitoki shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday. . .* . “ Mr.* Gouiden was one of a party engaged in building a haystack on a neighbour’s farm, and it appears that one of the stays securing, the heavy upright pole of the staker gave way, with the result that the pole Crashed to the ground and in -falling struck Mr. Gouiden on the back of the bead, fracturing the base of- the skull. a Dr. Cooper, of Eltham, was immediately summoned and ordered the re-. moval of the injured, m'an to hospital at Eltham, . which was reached about o p.m. Everything possible was don© for the patient, . but he expired’ approximately three-quarters of an hour later without having regained consciousness. Mr. Gouiden, who- isi a returned soldier, leaves a widow and two children. and was forty years of age.
