LINDEG R EEN CONVICTED. tBY TELEGRAPH PBESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, March 11. Reserved decision was given hv Mr E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day in the case in which the police proceeded against Carl Petersen Lindegreen. of Featherston street, secretary of the Dominion Sportsmen’s Association. Two of the- charges alleged that the defendant had printed documents containing statements as to the dividends paid on investments on the totalisator at the races at Palmerston North on December 29 and 30. Further charges set out that “On December 31, at Nelson, defendant did hid. assist, counsel and procure Alfred George Clements in the commission of an offence punishable on summary conviction, in that Alfred George Clements, at Nelson on December 31, did make a bet of I.os upon the result of the Wairarapa Cup, run at Tauherenikau on January 1, 1925. He (Clements) agreed to pay to Victor. Roherb Hnwkes, the other party to- the bet, should he win the' same, a sum of money, the amount of which would he dependent upon the result of the working of the. totalisator on the race.” The magistrate said he was of the opinion that defendant should he convicted, and he imposed the maximum penalty of £IOO.
