OHAWE BEACH.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) POSTAL MATTERS. Residents will be pleased to know that the first mail to the settlement will close to-night at 7 o’clock. It will be quite an event for the community. Mr J. G.. Macßae, of the store, has been approved ae postmaster, and his store as the post office. Very general approval has been expressed of the institution of an office and appreciation of the action of Mr Macßae in taking up the work. It is, however, a pity the establishment was not made last December, for from .that date there were a, large number of residents for .periods from a month upwards, and the service would have been much appreciated. UNWELCOME VISITORS. A little matter that has worried people, at the Ohawe beach more than the feud, especially those with children, has been the unwanted presence on the beach just opposite the road of the remains of a bull which was brought down the Waingongoro in a recent fresh. It was there, for some days, nothing being done to remove it, because it was hoped a high tide would claim the carcase. This was, however, not so and, to remove the nuisance, a few plugs of high explosive were put in, and after the elevation in sections of the carcase, what was left was dispersed by the tide. It is stated that two more carcases are on the beach south of Schnapper Bay, and still another is waiting up river for the next fresh. How the animals came to get in the river it is difficult to say. TELEPHONE. This matter is not definitely settled, and the postmaster expects a firm decision from head office in a few days. Actually this facility will he more, useful even than the post office, welcome as is the latter. On many occasions the value of the telephone has been amply proved.
