The New Zealand Federation of Master Painters, Decorators and Signwriters adopted a Christchurch remit urging the standardisation of widths and lengths of wall papers. It was stated that merchants complained of irregular length of rolls. The importation of British paper was menaced by Canadian and American. competitors, who supplied the standard 16 yard roll. It was decided to urge that the standard lie a 12 yards roll. SUICIDE OF NEWSAGENT. At the inquest on the circumstances surrounding the death of Charles Pooley, a newsagent, his liousekeeper said the deceased was worried over the sale of a property. He walked about the passages when he should have been asleep. She heard him .say: “I have done it now. I have tried to poison myself.” The Coroner found a verdict ,of suicide while mentally depressed.'
