SCHOOLBOYS’ TOUR.

AN AUCKLAND SCHEME. EDUCATION BY OBSERVATION. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, March 9. The outline of a scheme for educating New Zealand secondary schoolboys by means of a world tour in a specially acquired steamer was submitted by Mr. B. Buttle to the Auckland Industrial Association to-day. Mr. Buttle said the opportunity for travel came too late in the lives ,of most New Zealanders to be of any real value in the development of the higher faculties. The object of his scheme was. to secure these advantages for boys between 1G and 18. A' suitable steamer could be provided, he thought, at a practicable cost. ■" From 150 to 200 boys would be required. They would have to .pass a strict examination based largely on their powers of observation, and the scheme should secure the support of the Government. The cost should not be prohibitive, and probably for the first trip parents would be willing to contribute the major portion. Possibly the Imperial Government could be induced to make a spare warship available. The Industrial Association passed a resolution approving of the scheme, and will bring it under the notice of the Minister for Education and other associations.
