EMPIRE SETTLEMENT.

MOVEMENT AMONG: PROFESSIONAL CLASS. ajY CAii-LilJ—“J/.U.Loa * AooOC* ATiUiS —UOi*x ivIGHT . LONDON, Ala veil 8. The Daily Alan says an influential movement lias* been started to induce middle-class British families to settle in the Dominions instead of living on the Continent for the sake of economy. “The aim of the Emin re community movement .is to provide a practical scheme, giving special facilities to people of leisure with small means, who are now living on the Continent, to find within the Empire better conditions for themselves and their children,” says Sir ltoland .Bourne (secretary of the committee). The committee includes Lord Heston, Lord Gored, L’a'dy Frances Ryder, General Maxwell and Sir Henry McMahon: It holds its first meeting on Alareh 12. The Overseas Settlement Committee approves the movement. “Each committeeman represents some particular service, profession or organisation likely to be interested in the movement.” continued Six* Roland Bourne. Other influential bodies, including the Rhodes trustees, have been invited to join. Many meetings ol British lesidents have been held in towns in the French and Italian Revieras, explaining the movement. We believe thousands of the professional classes will welcome the opportunity of establishing themselves in the Dominions in company with others of similar tasks, where they might supplement their present incomes in congenial occupations, such as poultry and fruitfarming. Children would grow up in the Dominions under healthier conditions, and excellent educational facilities are generally available.”
