DAIRY PRODUCE CONTROL.

(To the Editor.) Sir —ln regard to dairy control, it seems to me that the average farmer does not recognise the important thing this is. Before scrapping the old system we want to be pretty certain what we are doing, and so far any business subject to State control, as far as I knoav, has never been a sliming success, either here or in Australia. I lhay be avrOng, but that is my impression 7 and still concerns controlled bv farmers, of which we in. Taranaki‘have had pretty good proof. \Ye are not going to run this Control Board for nothing; a Tew will get good fat salaries out of it. I wonder what the trip Home cost for a few? It must have run into thousands. Ox course the merchants’ Ag ents did not work .for nothing here; bat I have sat as director- on a. number of companies, and I always found there was enough competition among tbem to get a fair deal I may. say I Have no axe to grind, and i myself am giving up dairying. I. have nearer heard of butter and cheese merchants making vast laxtunes. It is too much of a gamble, I can quite understand clever, farseein(r men like Air. Holland supporting the Bill. It is a big leg in, as, wiTh meat control, ditto for dairy produce, and by and by wool control, it must mean a. big le\ r er to the Government of the day, and it is quite on the cards that some day we may have a Labour Goa T ernment. —I am, etc., OLD FARMER.
