ERUPTION REGALLEiD. DEATH OF MRS. HASZARD. A. lady who, went through, an almost unprecedented experience during the night of the Tarawera eruption died at Auckland the other day at Herne Bay, aged 82 years. She was Mrs. Amelia Jane Haszarcl, who was bom a,t- Prince Edward Island and came to New Zealand with her parents in 1859, in the brig Prince Edward. Mrs. Haszarcl married her eou.shp the late Mr. Charles Albert Haszard, who was at one time a compositor on the Southern: Grots® newspaper, and afterwards was farming and .storekeeping at Bombay. In. 1885 Mr. Hasz'a,rd was teacher of the native school at the time the village of Wairon was I buried as a. result of the eruption of I Mount Tarawera. j Mr. Hjaszard and three of the ehll-j dren lost their lives on that awful night, Mrs. Haszard and two daughter® escaping. The ejecta, from Tara-j wera. buried the village, and the roof of Mr. H«,szaid’s house fell in, pinning Mrs. Haszarcl by her arm. Two daughters who were with her manage-., to. get. out of ,a window and took refuge in in, neighbour’ll fowl-house. Mrs. Haszarcl sat in the ruined house all night, hut was rescued the next, day. -Deceased is survived by one dangli ter, Mrs. In a- Hobbs, of Papakura,* also by two brother's, Messrs. A. J. Ha. zard, of Hamilton, and S. F._ Haszard, of Auckland, also a sister, Mrs. G. W. Murray. The, wife of Sir James Parr is a niece, of deceased, and another niece, is Mils.
