(.Notes, bv “Spike.”) FORTHCOiAIING MEETINGS. Hawera, evening riieet'ingjs. bn March 11 and 25 and April S. Hawera, .Wjest- Coast championships, Easter Saturday, April 11. Pa tea, sports meeting, Easter Monday, April 13. Handicaps for evening meetings will in. future be published in Monday's Star. For the future, too, these meetings will commence at 5.30 p.m., so that the last event may be decided befor the light begins to fail. Carroll, Griffin and Hunt lead for the. respective points prizes' but there aio others very close up. Chilly five weeks: before the champion-, ships and still no sprinters showing good form. They should commence systematic, awl serious training immediately, or Wanganui, will again lead the way in the Hunt will gather in a lot of points at the West Coast championships. Hie is improved since, the New Zealand championships at Wanganui. Kyngdon is good enough to win the West Coast championship hurdles again this year in less than 17 seconds. Carroll should also get placed in the 120 yards hurdles. Iddie Scott was not as his V~~t at Wanganui, but without improving would win the West Coast championship 4-lflvds flat and hurdles.
Stan Lay di£ well with the javelin at Wanganui in the New Zealand championships./ He was fourth. Luck was somewhat against him, otherwise he would have been closer up. L. Torrens has been transferred to the Bank of New Zealand at Patea. He is a good little sport, and will, be an acmiisition to the Patea Club. Leo Marter.and G. H. W e ir acted as judge and timekeeper respectively iat-
the. New Zealand championships. H. E. Kerr has been invited to compete in the walking events at Wellington this month. ; A buskshee trip for Harry, and. he deserves' it too. Tommy Lay rode a splendid race at the last electric light meeting. He is serious about his training. The. Stenhing brothers are always very keen to ride “full out” ill the cycle events. Who can beat George Collins as a tryer and sport? He;ran, walked and cycled - ,-.-finishing, in all,' at the last meeting. He deserves n win. Morris, after his riding on the track at Wanganui, convinces me that he is more at home on the grass track. Bailey’s gameness won him the mile race against Hyde, the Australian, last week. A .number of others would .do well to realise that a race is not won till the tape is breasted.
