GEORGE GIFFEN RETIRING. George Giffen is retiring from the public service. For 43 years Giffen lias been employed at the General Post (iff ice, Adelaide, as a- letter sorter. He retires from the serivee on March 27, which will he the 64th anniversary of his birthday. He is at present on sick leave. George Giffen was the greatest all-round cricketer produced by Australia from the beginnings of cricket until M. A. Noble came to his best in the nineties. Even then many shrewd judges ranked Giffen as still the finest ajl-rounder, but everyone does not endorse that view. He was. however, a cricketer that were he in his prime today the world would acclaim him as one of the greatest jjlayers cricket has ever known. - No bowler in this country now is in the Giffen class on the truest- wicket.
