BUTTER INDUSTRY
THREATENED BY REGULATIONS. USE OF BORIC ACID. CONCERN IN AUSTRALIA. BY CABLE-TRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT. (Received March. 7, 10.35 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 7. Officials of the Commerce Branch of the Board of Trade, also memhers of the Austnfilian Dairy Control Board, are at a loss to understand the draft of the opposed butter regulations, which has been received from Britain. The new regulations prohibit the neutralisation of cream and the use of boric acid in butter as a preservative. The regulations, if put into effect, would entirely disorganise the dairying industry." Under them it would be impossible to export butter, so a trade valued at over '£6,000,000 annually would he lost to the Commonwealth.
