WAIHI TOLL-GATE.

TO BE ABOLISHED FROM MARCH 31. The Clifton County Council decided at its meeting yesterday that the Waihi toll-gate shall be definitely removed at the end of this month. The decision to abolish the toll charge has been made in consequence of an assurance from the Highways Board that the portion of - the Main North Road from the end of the present Government road at the Mangatuna Junction to the Waitara borough boundary will he declared a main highway, and that the portion of the road between the Mangatuna Junction and the Pukearuhe Junction will he declared a Government road, the council to pay annually to the. Main Highways Board an amount equal to the present fates collected from all sections of the Main North Road from the Pukearuhe Junction to the Mokau River.
