DAIRY CONTROL.

FARMERS’ UNION DISCUSSION

SUPPORT FOR THE BOARD. Dairy control came in for a brief discussion at the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday, when Mr E. J. Betts suggested it as a subject for an expression of opinion. The president (Mr R. Dunn) said he had no fears of the board being too drastic. It would probably take similar action to that of the Meat Board. The members were put there for a purpose, and must have a chance to prove themselves.

Mr J. C. Duff said that to do any good tnev must have the compulsory, clause.

The president said the produce could be held so as to put it on the market in regular quantities. He. considered it would also do away with the speculator. In reply to a suggestion by Mr Betts that pooling would handicap some factories making a superfine article, Mr Dunn said that the position was provided for by the grading system. / Mr Betts considered that shipping was the most important business to be dealt with.

“There are too many ports of call,” said Mr Haseltine, “and it takes sometimes months in loading.”
