WATERFRONT TROUBLE.
DISPUTE ENDED. WORK STARTED THIS AFTERNOON Q UICK ENG AG EATENTS. (By Telegraph.—Special to Star). WELLINGTON, March 5. . Nearly 1000 men were engaged in 25 minutes on the Wellington waterfrontthis afternoon, vtlius ending the difficulty for the present. The shipowners took the precaution of making the first labour call for the Wa i m a n a. -’They are starting where they left off,” remarked one of the good humoured crowd. Two freezer gangs having been selected without difficulty for the Waimana, two cheese gangs followed, about 100 men being taken for this ship. Then call bells were rung for other companies’ vessels, wliich quickly secured though there was a surplus left, as the port was not excessively busy. The men were waiting at 8 o’clock for the call, but heavy, ram prevented work being started till this afternoon. AT GISBORNE. IBY TELEGRAPH ■W'-ESS. APSOCIATION. GISBORNE, March 5. There has been no further developments of the waterfront trouble. No labour was offered for the Awahou at the. morning call, but the other vessels are being worked.
