The Department of Industries and Commerce has communicated with the president of the Master Bakers’ Association, informing him that the contemplated advanoein the price of bread is not justified, and that it intends to investigate the position. The powers possessed by the .Board of Trade, which is now out of existence, have been delegated to the Minister for Industries and Commerce.

The bakers had intended to increase as from Monday the prices by, Id on the 21b loaf, and 2d on the 4lb loaf; The department can. take legal action if it considers the price is excessive.
