PLACES FOR POCKETS.
The place which woman used to/ regard as her natural and traditional rightful one for a pocket, and which dangled, from a more or less invisible slit in the folds of her skirt, has been taken from her by the change, in the contour of her skirt, and many are the difficulties she has had to face since. She had a patch pocket, but it spoiled the hang of the skirt. She carried her handkerchief in her belt, whence it escaped at either side or .was lost altogether. She had* a hook attached to her purse, which depended thus from her waistband. Finally, she look, to an entirely separate bag for the hand, and, since then, instead of losing either her money or her handkerchief, lias been obliged to lose it and all the other contents as well, which she finds is necessary now to carry with her, such as a. tiny mirror and other items which shall he nameless. This bag for the hand is rather a. nuisance, in its way. But pockets in a coat must be used with discrimination, or they, too., hang and bulge. A little thought at the time of acquiring outdoor garments may save much trouble. Even readymade garments can easily have pockets added which will be a blessing. One inside the coat on the left- side may lie made for small change, railway ticket, etc. A similar one may be contrived under a cuff. A handkerchief is always difficult to stow away, and in the handbag it is cumbersome to get at. The. contour of women’s clothes being at present what it is, it is doubtful whether a> less noticeable place than the sleeve itself can. be devised.
