MEDICAL MEN CONFER

The annual conference of the New Zealand division of the British Medical Association is being held at- Mt. Cook Hermitage this week. . Addresses on .various subjects of special interest to the medical profession were given and discussed. Dr. G. J. Blackmore gave an informative address on the early diagnosis of tuberculosis of the lungs, and Dr. T. H. A. Valin tine (DirectorGeneral of Health) dealt interestingly with, the treatment of tuberculosis in New Zealand, explaining what the Health Department had done and was doing in. an endeavour to eradicate the disease. Sir H. Lindo Ferguson gave a very instructive address on medical education in America., his remarks embodying information gleaned by him on his recent visit to eleven medical schools in Canada and the United States. Dr. Valintine discussed with the delegates the departmental view in regard to. hospital policy, and a useful discussion followed. Dr. MacDonald ‘Wilson (Wellington! and Dr. Wnshboume (Nelson) initiated a discussion on the subject of infantile paralysis. Those who took part in the discussion on it included Dr. Purdie (chief health officer for New Soiu.li Wales). The temptation to- engage in excursions proved irresistible, and, favoured by fine weather, the delegates enjoyed mime toils; short trips. ’Hie conference concludes to-night. .
