BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ ROOT CROP COMPETITIONS. An interesting and instructive forenoon was .spent yesterday by a number of boys and girls of Kakaramea, not to mention a goodly -number of adults, when the Government agricultural instructors, Messrs. J. B. Hogg, and J. IN. Smith, paid a- visit of inspection to the various competition root crops grown in the neighbourhood. There are nine plots all told as follows: —Master J. Herbert mange is, Master F. Hamlin mangels, Master G. Hamlin carrots. Master W. Ward mangels, Miss’ Ft Tong Miss 'D. Milin carrots, Master L. Tong mangels, Master B. Duke carrots, Master, G. Tocher carrots. V* '
At the conclusion of the visit the instructors warmly congratulated, the competitors one and all on > the excellence of their blots 'and the keenness shown ini keeping them in order.This is the first season that -Kakaramea, ha. 9 entered for this competition, and consequently one might'hot expect the plots to he in line with those of older districts. Nevertheless the crops visited bad been quite com•parable with those in, districts that- had ; been competing for a number of years, indeed, of the nine plots inspected nob one could be classed as poor. Before their departure the visitors and some other adult members .o.f the party adjourned to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. P. Tong, where morning tea War? partaken, of. The general impression was that a delightful morning had been, r.pent, and that the department is to be congratulated on having in its service such - keen and genial personalities as Messrs Hogg and Smith.
