LITTLE GOES A LONG WAT
BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Feb. 23, 12.35 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 22, The Daily Mail draws attention to a newly-discovered South American mineral, whereof a small tube enabled a reporter to listen to a London broadcasting station without a wireless, set. The tube replaced the cat’s whisker detector and one end was connected to the lead in front an aerial and the other end was linked' up with the headphone terminal, a- second headphone terminal going to earth. Experiments gave 50 per cent, improvement in clarity, range and volume over the ordinary crystal detector. The mineral also enables the broadcaster to operate a. large loud-speaker by means of a crystal set without the aid of a single valve. A hundredweight of-the metal has reached England, and is sufficient to make one /hundred thousand detectors. —Sydney Sun Cable.
