JERSEY CATTLE CLUB.
MEETING IN HAWERA. NEW STAKES DECIDED ON. A meeting of the executive of the Hawera ’.Jersey Cattle Club was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present; Messrs John Pettigrew (chair), F. Hoskiii. .). S. T. Short, A. E. Western and .Jas. Meuli.
AIR. WATSON'S DEMONSTRATION. The secretary of the Taranaki Provincial Jersey Council wrote stating that Air H. E. B. Watson would be in Taranaki from April 2 to April 13 (inclusive), part of which period would be covered by the Easter holidays. The chairman oi the council, after conferring with his committee, had decided upon the following dates, and trusted that they would meet with the Haweia Club's approval:—Stratford, April 3; Kapongu. April 2; Hawera, April 6; New Plymouth, April S; and Inglewood, April 9 The- opinion was expressed that owing to the New Plymouth show and a Jersey sale the day after the show, Stratford and Kaponga's dates would have to he altered, hut as far as Hawera was concerned, Wednesday, the Sill, would tie more .suitable. It was decided, therefore, to advise the secretary to: 'this effect. The location of the demonstration was also discussed, and it was decided that it be held on Air J. S. T. Short’s property at Scott Rfiiid. Alessrs Short, Western and Hoslcin were appointed a sul>-coinmiltee to attend to arrangements in connection with the demonstration. / NEW AI EMBERS AND RESIGNATIONS. The following new members were elected: A. J. Armstrong. Alton; Condon Bros.. Te Kiri: Ed. Meuli and \V. Pollock. Hawera. Resignations were received Horn Messrs E. -J. Linn, Xormanby, and X. H. Wren. Toknora. NEW CLUB STAKES.
With a view to maintaining interest m the club, the secretary (Mr 11. AleCay), brought down a scheme for conducting a Hawera Jersey Cattle Club Stakes contest. Entries would be judged as 3-vear-olds at the Hawera A. and P. Show, but special classes for the entries as yearlings and two-vear-olds would bo arranged at the two preceding shows. The scheme was favourably reviewed by the executive, and it was unanimously decided to run the stakes each year' excepting the 1 year that the C.O.R. Stakes were held. It was also decided that the club hold a bull fair early in October on a date to be arranged with the auctioneers, entries to be received from club members only. i Tire secretary reported that lie bad received from the New Zealand Cattle Breeders' Association a cheque for £l4 6s, being subsidy money due to the club for prize money allotted to the hist F.gmont show.
