SHIPPING TROUBLE.
MARAMA’S CREW. VESSEL MAY SAIL. TO-DAY. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION..) WELLINGTON, Eeb. 20. The watersiders responded to the call for labour to work the Rotorua this morning and work is proceeding. The employers also called for labour to work all the other vessels in port. - The departure of the Marama, which was delayed from 11 a.in-, until 4 p.m. to-day, was further postponed in the afternoon, and it was announced by the Union Company that the vessel would not sail until to-morrow. The firemen left the ship under the terms of their original notice to leave the vessel at about 10.30 a.m., and the seamen were stated to have left the ship- at 5 p.m. In all, about 70 members of the crew are involved, and the Union Company cannot guarantee that the vessel will* get away to-morrow. When seen by a reporter, the general manager of the Union Company (Mr. D. A. Aitken) had little information to impart. The Marama’s departure had been postponed until mid-day on Saturday, he said.
Asked if lie thought the prospects of getting the vessel away to-morrow were good, Mr. Aitken replied l that the company hoped to be able to despatch the Marama at mid-day. The best was be. in.g done in the circumstances. Mr. Aitken had ! no further information to give.
