' ’While playing “Isolde’’ at the Liverpool Olympia, Aliss Rosina Buckman, the New Zealand singer, was waving « torch as a signal to Tristan, when her silk dress ignited. Luckily she. was near the wings and an attendant enveloped her in a wrapper and suppressed the flames.
The dress was destroyed, but Aliss Ruckman was not burned. It was a miracle that she wins not burned to death before the audience.
