PAID TO RUHR MAGNATES. AN OFFICIAL MEMORANDUM. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Feb. 18, 9.15 a.m. " BERLIN, Feh. 17. The question of payments by the Government to Ruhr industrialists during the period of isolation is. attracting cun .side cable attention in Germany among other financial scandals. A iiieinoradum .submitted to the Reichstag by the Government points out' that these payments were in the nature of compensation, to certain industrial firms in the Ruhr and other occupied territories, on account- ol deliveries in kjiud made by them to the Micum, or the in ter-Allied Commission, of control of works anil mines, on the cessation, of passive resistance.
The memorandum denies the press allegations that seven hundred million reic,hmarks were repaid in December,
mil says that the agreement for immediate payment provided for the reduction of debts by over two hundred million reichmarks, and out of the 220 million reichmarks paid in December, only one half was cash. The Government decided, for reasons of to pay the balance, aiiiT now asks the Reichstag to sanction the payments already made.— Reuter.
