The condition ol' the Prime Minister (Mr. Massey) is reported to be satisfactorily improving, .and there is every prospect that he nil) he able to leave his room within the next Jew (lays, in view of the necessity of regaining his full strength as a result of his being confined to his house for so long, it is hoped by his friends that Mr. Massey will ’ shortly embark on a health visit to Australia before Parliament assembles in ./line.
Mr A. Lees, late chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, who is well known in Mnnaia, is said to eontemplate standing against Mr O. Hawkeit for the Egmont seat. He has not, however, definitely decided, so a Waimate Witness reporter was informed. Mr Toroa Ngatau, of Mnnaia, is mentioned as a likely opponent of Sir Maui Pomare for the Western Maori seat. Interviewed bv a Waimate Witness reporter, he stated that he would probably stand, as lie had been approached by several influential Maori deputations from all parts of the electorate.
