BRITAIN’S POPULATION.
LOSING WORKERS. LONDON, Jan. 12. Britain's population is declining, and by 192 d there will be 2,000,000 workers less in the country than there are today, was the statement; made by Sir .Robert- Blair, late chief officer of t-lie London County Council. This depressing forecast is t-lie subject of comment in the morning papers here. Sir Robert declares there are a million fewer children in the primary classes of the schools than there were in 1911. “We are losing 100,000 children each year from -each age group,’ lie declared. lie attributes this to the falling birth rate, while emigration is also thought to be responsible. Many economists who believe that England can not support so large a population as she is now doing in a, decent living, think that this predicted reduction will prove beneficial if it does not rob the country of its productive workers, but eliminates the superfluity of administrative workers, which at present clogs the labour market, especially in London.
