A STRATFORD FATALITY.
OLD MAN’S FATE
BURNED TO . DEATH
Herman Ringer, an old man of 78 years and partially blind, was burned to death iu a fire last night which destroyed his home on the outskirts of Stratford,
The fire, which was discovered shortly after 11 p.m., was preceded by a terrific explosion which) was heard all over the town, arid when the brigade arrived on the :scene Ringer’s house was found to be burning furiously. Unfortunately, the dwelling was situated on the Opunake Road beyond the borough boundary, and as no water supply wa.s available the building soon burned to the ground. Owing to the non-appearance of Ringer there was some alarm concerning bis safety, and the worst fears were confirmed when a search in tlie< smouldering: ruins disclosed portions of a burned human body. The cause of the explosion remains a mystery, but there is little doubt that it preceded the fire.
