COLLAPSE OF FRANC.
TENDENCY TOWARDS PANIC
SPECULATION ON THE BOURSE
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT
LONDON, Feb. 15. The Paris correspondent of the Daily Express reports that the startling collapse of the franc is the one topic of conversation. It represents a fall of five points in a week, and speculation on the Bourse is inclined in the direc-. tion of a panic. On Saturday the Premier (M. Herriot) called a* conference of experts, whose deliberations lasted until three o’clock on Sunday morning. A disquieting factor is speculation against the franc among ordinary people, suggesting lack of confidence in the Government.
M. Violette, reporter of the Budget, stated in the Chamber that France requires another six thousand million francs iii revenue.
