The growing menace caused by the spread of noxious weeds and the inefficiency of the present system for combating the trouble, were again discussed by the Eltham County Council when that body- met on Saturday. Cr Campbell said lie now looked over his fence at. a beautiful flower garden—a countryside plastered with yellow ragwort, while Cr Carter said that where he used to cut Californian thistle with a knife lie was now using a. mowing machine. It was pointed out that the Department 's officer, whose duty it was to enforce the provisions of the Noxious Weeds Act, had too big a district' to cover, and the opinion was strongly expressed that the work should be handed over to the various countv councils to attend to.
