CROQUET TOURNAMENT.
TO-DAY’S PLAY. KEEN CONTESTS. The wonderful spell of weather which the committee have been fortunate to strike is following the play throughout, and to-dav'was just another of the glorious days that have followed in succession. The heat is perhaps at times too much, especially in the sheltered lawns, hut to-day was tempered by a nice cool breeze. As the championship competitions approach the semi-final stages the play appears to get keener with each match, and contestants generally take no risks. In this respect, perhaps the play is not quite so fascinating to the onlookers, though probably more effective to. the competitors. Mrs. N. Johnson by defeating Mrs. Dowling after a very keen struggle, comes into the semi-finals of the championships to play off with Mi’ Clague for the honor of playing off in the final with Mr. Meredith. CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. * Semi-finals. —Mesdames Morris and Cook 26 beat Mesdames Stiisted and Glasson 18; Mrs McKay and Mr Clague 26 heat Mrs Morrison and Miss Norman 17. The final is being played to-day. CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. The semi-final between Air Clague and Mrs Johnson is also played to-day.
