SANITY OF SIMPKINS. MEDICAL OPINION DIVIDED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATIONAUCKLAND. Feb. 13. The trial of James Simpkin, who ia charged with the murder o fhi s wife, Emma Simpkin, at Remuera on October 5. was continued to-day before' Mr. i Justice Herdman. Mr. Meredith ap- * pears for the Crown, and Mr. Finlay for accused. The defence called several medical parctitioners, whq from the evidence given in court indicated that ..they were of the opinion, that the accused suffered from petit mal. ‘Called by the Crown, Dr. Beattie, superintendent of the Auckland mental hospital, said he had examined the accused and'was of the opinion that he was quite sane, above the average in intelligence and quite capable, of know*; inp- the nature and quality of his act. The case was further adjourned.
