The defence called several medical parctitioners, whq from the evidence given in court indicated that ..they were of the opinion, that the accused suffered from petit mal. ‘Called by the Crown, Dr. Beattie, superintendent of the Auckland mental hospital, said he had examined the accused and'was of the opinion that he was quite sane, above the average in intelligence and quite capable, of know*; inp- the nature and quality of his act.
