At Buffalo, Nurmi, the Finnish athlete, ran 2000 yards in 4.45 3-5, 2000 metres in 5.22 2-5, and a mile and a quarter in 5.23 4-5. NURMI STRAINS LIG AMENT. NEW YORK, Jan. 30. Trying to break his sixteenth world’s record, Nurmi, the Finnish athlete, strained a ligament last night, and though he led the field home, failed to come anywhere near the record for 1J miles. His time -was 5.19. LONDON, Feh. 10. Commenting on Nurmi’s American successes, the Athletic News says that they are doing much to confirm the impression formed in Paris, that he is the greatest all-round. track runner the world has ever seen. The newspaper points out that, contrary to tlje custom of great athletes. Nurmi does not run in the accepted style, hut in a manner peculiar to Finnish l’unners, namely, with the body perfectly upright and using a more or less flat foot. ‘‘lt is difficult to see its advantage.” says the newspaper, ‘‘hut in view of Nurmi’s successes steps ought to he taken to investigate it.”
