PERSONAL ITEMS.
A Sydney message reports that the death has occurred at Parlies of Mrs Alice Davey, who claimed to be the first white child born in New Zealand. Her birth really occurred at sea, but within the three-mile limit. She was 85 years of age. Her many friends throughout South Taranaki will be pleased to leant that Mrs. John Finlay, of Tokaora, who recently underwent a seiious operation in lijawera hospital, is progressing re v sati>l'actm ily. The operation, was quite successful, and Mrs. Finlay, though naturally very weak, is cheerful and bright. At the last meeting of the Patea Rifle Club reference was made to the excellent services rendered to the club by Rifleman D. Calder, who was about to leave the district. On behalf of the club Deputy President E. Thompson presented Mr Calder with a salad bowl and a silver pencil, suitably inscribed, ns tokens of the members’ appreciation. TVfr Calder suitably replied.
