HAWERA’S NEXT MAYOR.
WHO WILL HE BE?
MR BONE NOT STANDING. With tlie Mayoral elections drawing near, attention is again becoming concentrated on matters concerning the administration of local affairs, and enquiries are being made with regard to the forthcoming contest. His Worship the Mayor (Mr L. A. Bone) was approached by a Star reporter to-day concerning his intentions, but he definitely replied that he would not be a candidate. “Besides mv business, I now have other work that takes me all over New Zealand two and three times a year—business that the public knows nothing about,” said Mr Bone, “and it is therefore impossible for me to take up office again.” Mr Bone said he had enjoyed his work as Mayor, and had found it both' interesting and educational, but it was more than he could undertake again. Mr H. L. Spratt, who contested the Mayoralty against Mr Bone at the last election, was also approached. Mr Spratt said that, as far as was concerned, he felt that he was taking hie share in public affairs already, and he did not seek any further burden in this direction. He also expressed appreciation of Mr Bone’s attention to public affairs whilst holding office. Another leading citizen who was approached stated that he did not wish his name to be mentioned in the matter.
