MOERAKI SAILS
WITH NON-UNION CREW
SOME TROUBLE OCCURS
COOKS ARE PUT ASHORE. BY' CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Feb. 13, 10.55 a.m. MELBOURNE, Feb. 13. With a non-unionist crew, the Moeraki sailed for New Zealand, probably for Dunedin at 11.30 last night, a, new crew was taken aboard in a ferry steamer. Some trouble occurred when they reached the vessel. The cooks refused to work with non-unionists and were put ashore. The stewards, however. were satisfied to remain aboard in accordance with the order made by the court. ' fiiSfj' , The old crew assembled in the Mercantile Marine Offices to be paid off, but a hitch occurred because all hands refused to sign off unless paid until the time of their return to New Zealand, which was not agreed to. Then it was contended that the court' clerk had made an entry in the log after Wednesday’s proceedings. The point taken was that this was not legal, because only the ship’s officers were permitted to make entries in the log. This contention also had no effect, but before any finality was reached the Marine Offices were closed and the payments postponed till to-day.
