BIG TOWING FEAT.
- ——- ADELAIDE TG ROTTERDAM. The greatest tow-trig rent ever attempted from Australia will be undertaken within the hext, few weeks by two Dutch tugs, the Willem Barendsz and the Vlaanderen, now at Williamstown, which will commence the task of towing ft'om Port Adelaide to Rotterdam, in Holland, the disabled steamer City of Singapore, a vessel of GHG7 tons, which was burnt at Port. Adelnide last year. The distance which the tugs will have to cover with an empty, engineless, and unwieldy semiderelict in tow, will be approximately 13,000 miles. , The point that is disturbing to shipbuilding and engineering firms, and the employees of both, however, is the fact that such an undertaking should haye been considered necessary by the owners of* the City of Singapore. They state, however, that Australian costs for labour and material are. so high that it is cheaper to have the vessel towed to Holland to be repaired than to pay the amount asked for refitting the City of .Singapore in Australia.
