MOTOR REGISTRATIONS.
NORTH ISLAND BEATS SOUTH. Begitrations of motor vehicles are over a thousand greater in Wellington, than in Auckland, and Christchurch hlso exceeds the northern district. The total number of motor vehicles in the North Isian dis 50 per cent, gerater than in tne South island. The number ol legistrations effected to February 4 is:—Auckland, 12,574; Gisborne, 1836; Hamilton, 5<55; Napier, 6200; New Plymouth, 4898; Thames, 2185; Wanganui, 4336; Wellington, 13,793; North Isiand total, 51,577. Blenheim, 1268; Christchurch, 13,402; Dunedin, 6786; Greymouth, 778; Invercargill, 5006; Nelson; 1757; Oamaru, 1468; Timaru, 3999; Westport, 269: South Isian total, 34,733. New Zealand total, 86.310. it should be explained that- these totals refer to postal, districts, in which Wellington gets'the advantage - of having included in its total the motor vehicles registered in Palmerston North and Masterton.' The Auckland district stretches north to the North Cape from a line drawn eastward from the mouth of the Waikato River, a little south of Mercer, but including that town, to the firth of Thames. The Wellington district has its northern boundary in a line drawn north-east from the mouth of the .Rangitikei to the Ruahines and south-east to a point just north of Castle Point. The Christchurch district stretches from the Kaikouras south to Raagitata and west to the Alps. The Dunedin district extends from the Shag Ri%-er on the north to a point on the coast near Waikawa, and north-west to Lake Wannka,. The Invercargill, district comprises practically the whole of Southland Province.
