PROFESSOR OF ARCHITECTURE
AUCKLAND UNI VER-SJTY APPOINTMENT. The appointment- of a professor of architecture at the Auckland l niversify was referred to with gratification by Mr. W. M. Page, president of the institute of Architects -at a general meeting to-day. He heartily congratulated the council on the step taken, which marked the beginning of .-si new era and would have very larreaching and beneficial effect, especially if the appointee was the type of man he was given to understand he was. Not only would it have a stimulating effect with regard to architecture, but it would tend to a better and wider conception of art generally and could not but be of inestimable benefit to the whole eountrv.
