ARCHITECTS CONFER.
VALUE OF EDUCATION. TO RAISE, STANDARD OF ARCHITECTURE.
(by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 12. Mr W. M. Page, president of the Institute of Architects, in addressing the annual conference, stressed the importance of education and the establishment of better relations between the public and architects. They should not fear, hut welcome a more exacting public, which would be of enormous stimulus to architecture. He was unable to understand why buildings should not be criticised as were painting, literature and drama. He would welcome the publication of the truth about buildings. He referred to the active interest taken in architecture hv the Oxford University, and declared that an educational body which failed to recognise the importance ofthe subject was failing in respect tq one important branch of education. Efforts should be made to raise the standard and general understanding of architecture, not only among architects, but amongst the people.
