WAR DEBTS.

PROPOSALS TO FRANCE, PRItSS CRITICISM. MANY SIDED QUESTIONS. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Feb. 11, 12.25 p.m.) PARIS, Feb. 10. Comments in the newspapers emphasise the necessity for time to probe the British debt proposals before France can enter any comments, and generally insist that French repayments should depend on Germany’s reparations payments. Le Matjn believes the French Government will not deal with debts without relation to the question of France’s security. If France must strive to assure her defence and to increase the military strength of her European allies, how can she pay annuities to Britain and the United States? L’Oeuvre insists on an account being taken of German payments. The Ere Nouvelle declares that the next Anglo-French Conference must discuss the question of security. The Figaro wonders whether Britain is seeking economic and colonial advantages. The Petit Journal says that conditions regarding th© abandonment of French counter-claims on Britain and the obligation to pay fixed annuities, even if Germany defaults, are not acceptable. The Echo de Paris states that the closest relation must exist between French and German payments. — Reuter.
