BUTTER-FAT YIELDS.

SEASON’S EXCELLENT FIGURES

HAWERA COMPANY’S RECORD

As with most other companies in the dairy districts of the Dominion, Hawera are showing remarkably good production figures for the season up till date, and it appears likely, unless there is a decided setback, that the figures will go on improving, so as to set a new record for the company. Up to Christmas there wms, as previously noted, an increase to date of about ten per cent, and this has been improved upon for January to th eextent of nearly twenty per cent. The secretary (Mr Duncan) advises also that there lias been no’ material increase in herds, bnt that the increased output is due to the specially fafourable nature of the season, and, in addition, to better farm methods. The increase is the more satisfactory in that usually a reverse condition exists in this portion of the year. In fact, January returns are very little below’ December, a remarkable fact. The total figures recorded by the company to date are given below. They do not take into account the considerable and increasing amount of cream from home separation. Most factories cater for this part of the industry, and lorries can he seen practically in every part of the district picking up farmers’ cream to be made into butter. The figures un to January 31 are:—-Butter-fat. 1,539,2811 b, an increase on last year of 147,2611 b. The increase is very striking, and records show that it is heinir still maintained. It seems probable that unless rain comes there will he a decrease.

All the companies in the district agree, we understand, in the pay-out, and for some months have adopted Is 3d as the figure. This the Hawera Company agreed to pay at their meeting vesterday. Their figures of production reflect the good and favourable season and their increase recorded is typical of all factories.
