NOTES BV THE WAV
(By Maecenas.)
All thing considered, the acceptance.I'eceived lor the 'Taranaki Jockey Club s autumn meeting, must he considered satisfactory, and some good racing should eventuate on Thursday.
As anticipated, quite a number ol horses that raced at the- Tnkapuna meeting, will sport silk O r the first time this season.
The field lor the Scurry at the Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting on Thursday contains the names of a couple, ol promising horses. One of these is Dai Eaton, if fancied by his trainer, is sure to run well.
In Dal Eaton, trainer Jamieson, lias a promising youngster, and one that may race well at the Taranaki Jockey Club’s fixture.
The fiekl for the Waitara Hurdles to. be run at the Taranaki meeting is a disappointing one. On recent form Wench will have a big following, hut Bonny Rill and Mountain (fold should both make the race interesting. Town Bank ran an excellent race to Gold .Light in the Auckland Plate at flic last meeting at Ellerslie, and this no doubt will gain the three-year-old admirers for the Taranaki Cup. IJevis won very decisively in his only appearance at the Egmont meeting, and is evident lv a useful sprinter. A rise of ten pounds, may nor prevent backers from sending Bevis out favourite for the 'J’imnru Hack to-morrow. More judiously lidden, than was the ease on the second day at Egmont, Starsheb will, he hard to heat.
Seeing that 11. Gray is not riding Muranhi in the Taranaki Cup, one may expect to foresee him on Stork in tluij event. Stork is very well just notv, and with Gray’s help, he should put up a big fight to-morrow. When a. quick beginner like The Lamb meets a brilliant opponent like Orchid in a race, the event, is usually disastrous to both, a sample, of which we had -at Egmont last week. With no Orchid to worry him, The Lamb may run better to-morrow. After an absence of ten months from the race track Valencia put, up a good race in the Nolan Cup, at Egmont, and should he derive the benefit from, the race one would expect. Valencia will he well up to-morrow. Nancy Log is endowed with more pace than the vast majority of "hacks.”and on the circular track ar New Plymouth, should he able to got all the advantage therefrom, and incidentally Nancy Lee may run well in her engagements.
The Wanganui studmaster, Mr. J. Donald, was anxious to secure Grey Linnet, the dam of brilliant Songbird, but I understand something like £2OOO was asked for her, which stopped any desire for the mare. Although the Wanganui press have reports to the contrary, the judge’s box on the Wanganui course is to be shifted hack. But owing to interference with the view of the patrons on the Steward’s stand, it will not be placed at the site originally decided on. 1 understand it will, go hack 00 foot from its present position. Half a mile from home in the Egmont* Cup, Snnart was going particularly-, well, but a little later; one of the gelding’s legs went, and an excellent chance was extiguished. Snnart will now want a spell, and will not be a runner in the Wanganui Cup. For a considerable time, IT. Gray lias ridden Muraahi in his races, but I understand -T. Barry will be given the mount on the sen of Campfire' in the Taranaki and Wanganui Cups. Muraahi is as well now as at any time in his career.
