There have been great pictures before —but never one like this; never a .picture to win or deserve such universal praise. J.on Ciiane.y’s make-up as ‘The Hunchback 7 ’ is a. perfect reproduction of the author’s drawings and spoken description. So it is with the entire cast — a cast of seventy-five- principals, the list of which includes Patsy Ruth Miller as Esmeralda, Ernest Torrence, Tuilv Marshall, Caesare Gravina, Kate Lester, Gladys Brockwell, Eulalie Jensen, and others. Besides the seventy-five principals, 300 extras appear in the big courtyard scenes and the mob action. Lon Chaney’s performance of “The Hunchback” will he a revelation even to those accustomed to his remarkable make-up. It was only possible for him to work two or three hours a day, so painful was the distortion of his body.
