BRIEF LIBERTY.
ESCAPEE RECAPTURED. MADE NO RESISTANCE. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATIONTE AWAMUTU, Feb. 10. The Waikeria escapee, Harold Keith Jones, was recaptured on a farm at Palmerston, an adjoining settlement, after 27 hours’ freedom. A settler named Pollard saw a man crossing the paddock, hut on his approach, the man ran away. Suspicious , regarding the man’s behavious, Pollard rang up the police, when liis suspicions were confined on arrival of the police and warders. Jones ran to shelter in the bush, which was surrounded, whereupon Jones gave himself up. Pollard, while . • assisting; the police, was jolted from a motor truck, and falling on his shoulder, injured his collarbone. When captured, Jones had the. rifle Toaded. He told the police that he had been accosted on the day of his escape, he would not have hesitated to use the ; weapon, but he had thought better of carrying resistance to such extremes. It is understood that in addition to charges involving the present sentence, other charges of forgery are pending against the prisoner.
