SINGAPORE BASE.

NOT AIMED AT JAPAN. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Feb. 8. In a speech at Liverpool, the Hon. R. E Amery, referring to the Singapore base, said: “At Singapore we stand on the sea lane that carries all the shipping of the Far East. Clearly it is a direct influence on the peaceful security of the Empire that we should be in a position to guard that ' shipping. If we do so our action is not aimed at any other Power, least of all at our old and faithful ally, towards which to-day our goodwill and friendship are as strong-as ever they were.?’
